Just before Arnold Schwarzenegger started tweaking his onscreen persona with late ’90s curiosities like The 6th Day and Collateral Damage, he made one last by-the-numbers adventure movie about a U.S. Marshal protecting a witness who uncovers an illegal arms deal. (Did somebody say rail-guns?) By this point in his career, Arnold could play this kind of character in his sleep, and at times it looks like that’s exactly what he’s doing. Still, there’s something to be said for any movie in which a man falls out of a plane without a parachute, retrieves a parachute in mid-air, puts it on, and then plays a game of chicken with a plane.

I’vewritten at length aboutCongo, a very amusing attempt to replicateJurassic Park’s successby adapting another Michael Crichton novel, this one with hyper-intelligent apes in the place of dinosaurs.
