EXCLUSIVE: With Wednesday’s business included, Universal’s Wicked has topped the $700M mark globally. Of the total, $240.4M is from the international box office and $460.6M from domestic. The film still has Japan to release on March 7. The news comes as Wicked today was nominated in the main feature category by the PGAs.

The $700M worldwide milestone was reached even though Wicked hit Premium VOD on December 31. In its first week available in homes, the movie from director Jon M. Chu minted $70M, the best first week Universal has seen for any theatrical title with a premium release.

Starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Wicked ended 2024 as Uni’s second-highest grossing movie of the year worldwide. It was the biggest non-sequel of 2024 globally and became the top stage musical adaptation of all time, taking the crown from Universal’s own Mamma Mia!.

Also internationally, the origins story is the 3rd highest grossing stage musical adaptation ever (behind Universal’s Les Misérables and Mamma Mia!). In 45 markets, it is the No. 1stage musical adaptation.

Here’s how the Top 10 offshore markets breakdown: UK ($74.3M), Australia ($28.9M), Germany ($16.9M), Korea ($15.2M), Mexico ($10.2M), Netherlands ($7.9M), Spain ($7.1M), France ($6M), Philippines ($5.6M) and Brazil ($4.4M).
