Maybe once in a blue moon, Tatum O’Neal shares a glimpse into her private life.

Six years after she suffered a near-fatal overdose and subsequent stroke, the Paper Moon actress made a rare public outing with her family.

For the Oct. 24 outing, O’Neal sported a black dress and loafers with a navy jacket, and used a cane to help her walk alongside her daughter Emily McEnroe, 35, and son-in-law Tim Massarelli.

Days before her L.A. appearance, the 62-year-old—also mom to kids Kevin, 40, and Sean, 39, with ex-husband John McEnroe—shared a picture of herself smiling in what appeared to be her bedroom surrounded by family pictures, simply writing in the caption of the Oct. 16 Instagram post, “Hope.”

O’Neal’s outlook on life has been one of optimism since her May 2020 overdose, which led to a massive stroke.

“I’ve been trying to get sober my whole life,” the Oscar winner, who struggled with drug addiction for years, told People in 2023. “Every day, I am trying.”
