Micky Petrillo is a transgender man from New Jersey who began his transition at age 59, after living most of his life as Michele. He has shared his story publicly to help other transgender individuals and recently became a patient-perspective role model for gender-affirming care at Hackensack Meridian Health.
Key details about Micky Petrillo’s story:
- Transitioning later in life: Petrillo realized he was meant to live as a man in 2023. An airport incident prompted self-reflection. He had often been called a “tomboy” growing up.
- Finding his identity: After binding his chest and experiencing euphoria, he consulted his therapist and decided to transition.
- Gender-affirming care: He became a patient of Dr. Alyssa Golas at JFK University Medical Center, part of Hackensack Meridian Health.
- Celebrating his new life: After recovering from surgery, he held a party called “The Man I Was Meant to Be” to celebrate his transition with friends and family.
- Public advocacy: Petrillo has been featured in patient stories and on social media, describing himself as “The Man I Was Born To Be” and sharing his experiences with the transgender community.
His new book “Walking The Earth: First As A Woman, Then As A Man” is now available at https://www.mickyangelopetrillo.com
