Obsession opened to $17.1M stateside in mid-May and legged out to an unprecedented 14.6x multiple to a current $249.5M domestic off a rare A- for a horror movie. Co-produced by Blumhouse and financed originally by Capstone for $750K. The movie remains in the top 5 making $9.4M in its eighth week.
YouTube-made filmmaker, Barker, has his next movie, Anything But Ghosts, with Focus Features and Blumhouse. He also has a third secret project in the work with Blumhouse in addition to re-launching Texas Chainsaw Massacre with A24.
Universal offshore territories have made $127.6M through last Monday, with non-Uni markets grossing $30.6M, for an overall foreign take of $158.1M. Japan is opening on July 17 and Korea on Sept. 2.
