Animal Collective have shared new material, a 22-minute piece of music titled “Defeat.” It gets a physical release later this year on a 12″ vinyl with a live recording of the new song “The Challenge” on its B-side. The record is out August 25 via Domino. Check out “Defeat” below.

Animal Collective made “Defeat” with producer Russell Elevado, violinist Samara Lubelski, cellist Leila Bordreuil, and saxophonist Ben Chapoteau-Katz. “Defeat” arrives after the group’s latest studio LP, 2022’s Time Skiffs. Earlier this year, Animal Collective reissue their 2000 album, Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished. Outside of Animal Collective records, members Avey Tare and Panda Bear have both released some new material of their own. The former released 7s in February, and Panda Bear recently collaborated with Rusty Santos for the track “Mirror.”
