Grimes appeared on the latest episode of The Eric Andre Show on Adult Swim. In the segment, titled “Grimes and Punishment,” she’s tickled with a feather, subjected to melted candle wax, and “cheeseboarded” with liquid cheese by Kraft Punk. Check it out below.
In an interview with Complex, Andre explained that he invited her on the show after she noted the lack of female musical guests. “I explained to her, it’s because we always torture the musical guest,” he said. “I’m always beating them with bats or electrocuting them, so it’s not a good look if I’m like torturing a woman. And she goes, ‘Yeah, that makes sense but I wanna do the show. Fuck it, you can torture me!’”
Later, he learned that Grimes was pregnant when the segment was filmed. “I was like, ‘You just talked me into torturing a pregnant woman,’” he said. “And she was like, ‘Yeah, but it was fucking awesome!’”
She recently partnered with an algorithm-based mood music startup on a collaborative new project called “AI Lullaby.” In September, she did an episode of Google Arts & Culture’s video series Art Zoom, discussing Bruegel’s The Fall of Rebel Angels. In May, she sold a “Fraction of Her Soul” at an online art exhibition.
