Tell Me a Story is switching things up in Season 2 with new fairy tales and an entirely different location. Kevin Williamson‘s grim series heads to Nashville, where it will take on the iconic stories of Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. According to stars Paul Wesley and Danielle Campbell, who return to the CBS All Access show in new roles, Season 2 will be even darker than the first.

“It’s quite extreme,” Wesley teased to TV Guide earlier this year during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. “Not every fairy tale has a happy ending,” Campbell added ominously.

The upcoming installment centers on three siblings who are each tied to a different fairy tale, but whose stories will also interconnect as the season progresses. Wesley, who confirmed that his storyline is inspired by Beauty and the Beast, is set to play Tucker, a novelist with a lovely fiancée, who seems fine on the outside but who we’ll come to find has something off about him.

Meanwhile, Campbell will take on the role of Olivia, an intelligent and strong-willed woman who ditches her boyfriend and small Oklahoma town to pursue a master’s degree in Nashville. “She is about to embark on a journey she was not prepared for,” Campbell said of her character.

Matt Lauria‘s Jackson is the eldest sibling and, as a troubled musician, is also considered to be the black sheep of his family. His journey takes a dark turn when he meets Ashley Madekwe‘s Simone at a bar and is pulled into a sinister world full of deceit and murder. Simone, meanwhile, finds her life derailed when her father remarries, severing their once-close relationship for good. She returns to Nashville upon her father’s death and squares off against a contentious stepmother.

And while Simone’s story might be rooted in Cinderella lore, don’t expect to see a glass slipper in the series. Instead, the iconic shoe will exist in another form, as Madekwe confirmed it’s a “charm bracelet with a slipper on it.”

Season 2 of Tell Me a Story premieres Thursday, Dec. 5 on CBS All Access.

(Disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS Interactive, a division of CBS Corporation.)
