Justin Vernon released his fourth Bon Iver album digitally a few weeks before it was originally scheduled to arrive on August 30. The record features many collaborators, including James Blake, Bruce Hornsby, Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, and Spank Rock, to name a few. In his review of the album, named Best New Music, Matthew Strauss writes that, on i,i, “Justin Vernon takes the Bon Iver sound and reassembles it like a cubist collage, with his voice right out front.” Check out Pitchfork’s track review of “Hey, Ma.”
Marika Hackman: Any Human Friend [Sub Pop/AMF]
Any Human Friend is English singer-songwriter Marika Hackman’s second album for Sub Pop, following 2017’s I’m Not Your Man. She co-produced the record with David Wrench. Check out the music videos for “i’m not where you are” and “the one.”
Rick Ross: Port of Miami 2 [MMG/Epic]
More than a decade after releasing his debut Port of Miami, Rick Ross is ready for another round with Port of Miami 2. The album features Drake (“Gold Roses”), Teyana Taylor, the late Nipsey Hussle, and more. Port of Miami 2 is Rick Ross’ second studio LP for Epic, following 2017’s Rather You Than Me.
G&D: Black Love & War [SomeOthaShip Connect/eOne]
G&D is the duo of Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins aka Declaime. “I want folks to feel pumped listening to Black Love & War,” Muldrow said in a statement. “I want it to help them on their journey to fearlessness. I hope these songs help them release that magic, or makes their day more understandable.” Black Love & War is Muldrow’s second release of 2019, following VWETO II.
