Avengers: Endgame Writer Wouldn’t Mind Making A ‘Really Good Superman Movie’

Speaking with Screen Rant, Endgame co-writer Stephen McFeely said that because Captain America worked so well, he thinks Superman could also resonate with modern audiences. He said as much when he and Avengers co-writer Christopher Markus were asked which DC hero they’d love to write.

This is super interesting. Casual moviegoers give DC grief because the movie versions of their best characters are likely the only iterations they’ve seen, but the publisher actually offers incredible stories brimming with rich lore and fascinating backstories.

Superman is arguably DC’s biggest hero (with Batman coming in at a very close second), and comparisons to Captain America are fairly common. Both are unbelievably loyal, unabashedly idealistic (almost to the point of being quixotic), and have morals that would make your golden-hearted best friend look like a serial killer. They’re not too different and Stephen McFeely seems to think that by itself is evidence that Superman can work on the big screen in today’s day and age.

Christopher Reeve was a phenomenal Superman, as was Henry Cavill. With Cavill (the more controversial of the two), the problem wasn’t his performance. It was the writing. Man of Steel, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League were all abysmal, but if anyone saved those films from being complete disasters, it was Cavill.

Of course, Chris Evans’s portrayal of Captain America is difficult to base anything off of, solely because he was absolutely perfect in the role. But it seems like Stephen McFeely is referring to Captain America’s character, history, and personality overall. Personally, I think he would do a solid job writing Superman.

Avengers: Endgame will be released digitally on July 30 and on Blu-Ray, DVD, and 4K on August 13. Don’t miss it! It has deleted scenes and other goodies so it’s absolutely worth it.
