DC co-chief James Gunn made it official on Instagram that advance tickets for the Craig Gillespie directed Supergirl are on sale. The pic based on the Tom King and Bilquis Evely graphic novel Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow, opens on June 26. Ana Nogueira adapted the comic for the big screen.

The official trailer which dropped two months ago has clocked 27M views on YouTube alone, whereas the teaser from five months ago pulled in 24M.

House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock plays the title character, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl aka Superman’s cousin. She joins forces with an unlikely companion on an interstellar journey of vengeance and justice when an unexpected adversary strikes too close to home. Previous trailers have shown off villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts) and the antihero Lobo (played by DC Aquaman’s Jason Momoa). And of course, David Corenswet’s Superman will be making a cameo.

Last year, Gunn’s revamp of Superman via Warner Bros opened to $125M stateside and legged out to $354.2M domestic, $618.7M. The last time Supergirl was on the big screen was in 1984, that pic produced by the original Superman producer Ilya Salkind. Triple note that movie was not distributed by Warner Bros like the Christopher Reeve Superman pics were during the 1980s, rather Tri-Star at the time. Supergirl though is in the Warner Bros DC library, of course.

Supergirl we hear cost $175M net before global P&A spend with breakeven at $315 global box office.

Supergirl also stars Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham. DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn produced, with Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars P. Winther exec producing.
