Bong Joon-Ho‘s next big movie post his Parasite Oscar winner, Mickey 17, will open in his native South Korea homeland on Jan. 28, 2025, three days before the pic’s global launch on Jan. 31.

Warner Bros. specifically moved the Robert Pattinson sci-fi movie from this March to the end of January in order to take advantage of the Lunar New Year holiday window, a great time for moviegoing. The movie will be screened in all PLF formats, Imax, 4D, Dolby and Screen X.

Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group President of International Distribution Andrew Cripps said, “Director Bong’s creativity, vision and imagination always exceed expectations. Mickey 17 will surprise audiences with its original story and characters, unpredictable plot development and humor, as well as great production qualities. Korea, Director Bong’s mother country, was our first choice in terms of where to debut the film. All of us here at Warner Bros. are very excited to share Mickey 17 with audiences in Korea and beyond.”

Joon-Ho wrote the script off Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7. Producers are Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, as well as Joon-Ho and Dooho Choi.

Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, with Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo also star.

Parasite grossed over $262M at the global box office, and won the Palme d’Or and four Oscars at the 2020 ceremony including Best Picture.
