Seven years after his career imploded amid dozens of sexual misconduct accusations, Kevin Spacey’s ongoing efforts to resurrect his career have taken him to Italy. The two-time Oscar winner will star as The Devil in The Contract, one of three projects that will soon involve Italian filmmaker Massimiliano Caroletti and his wife, the former porn star Eva Henger.

Cinecittà News, the official news outlet of Rome’s famed Cinecittà Studios, revealed on Tuesday that the project, which recently wrapped shooting in Rome, is being directed by Massimo Paolucci (All in One Day) and will be produced by Tm Entertainment and Sandro Lazzerini. The thriller is based on an idea by Caroletti and scripted by Henger.

Spacey had largely avoided the public eye since his career collapsed in the early days of the #MeToo era, but has recently begun to reemerge, with a role in the upcoming indie thriller Peter Five Eight and an appearance at the comic book convention Mad Monster in Concord, North Carolina in February. The actor — who in July, 2023, was cleared of nine sexual assault charges in a U.K. criminal trial — in February struck a deal with MRC, the production company behind House of Cards, to slash a $31 million judgment against him for on-set sexual misconduct involving young crew members to $1 million, according to court documents.

The plot of The Contract is being kept under wraps, but Cinecittà News revealed that the film is inspired by movies like Alan Parker’s 1987 supernatural thriller Angel Heart, starring Mickey Rourke, and Taylor Hackford’s 1987 title The Devil’s Advocate, starring Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino. Spacey stars alongside Eric Roberts and Vincent Spano.

Reps for Spacey, Roberts and Spano did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
