EXCLUSIVE: Just in time for SXSW season, A24 has dated MaXXXine, the third movie in the Ti West horror franchise, for July 5. The first movie, X, made its world premiere in 2022 at SXSW, where the filmmaker promptly announced its sequel, Pearl, starring the franchise’s main scream queen, Mia Goth.

Savor the retro teaser for MaXXXine above.

The Independence Day stretch is a big starting point for A24 when it comes to genre fare; that’s where it launched Ari Aster’s Midsommar. Rival titles going wide over the summer holiday include Illumination/Universal’s Despicable Me 4, Angel Studios’ Possum Trot and the Roadside Attractions action movie, Kill.

In MaXXXine, Goth reprises one of her two roles in X. The pic, which she co-wrote with West, follows Maxine (Goth), after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey toward fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.

In addition to Goth, MaXXXine features a murderers row including Elizabeth Debicki, artist and musician Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, award-winning artist Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon.

MaXXXine is produced by A24, Jacob Jaffke, West, Goth, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss.

Combined, X and Pearl have grossed close to $25M worldwide.
