Questlove to Direct Disney’s New Aristocats Movie

The Roots drummer will also oversee the music for the “live-action/hybrid reimagining” of the 1970 film

Academy Award–winning director and Roots drummer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is going to take the helm of a new remake of the 1970 Disney movie The Aristocats, Deadline reports. Questlove’s movie will be “a live-action/hybrid reimagining” of the original, according to the report. He is also serving as a an executive producer and overseeing the film’s music.

Questlove won the 2022 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for his acclaimed film Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised). He also won Best Music Film at the 2022 Grammys.

The original Aristocats featured several original songs written by Robert and Richard Sherman, including the title song and “Scales and Arpeggios.” The movie is also known for “Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat,” written by Floyd Huddleston and Al Rinker and performed by Scatman Crothers, Phil Harris, and Robie Lester.
