While the paparazzi probably aren’t following you on the regular, there’s something to be said for maintaining an A-list-level of polish wherever you go (after all, you never know which ex or coworker you might run into). If you’re planning a trip this summer like much of the rest of the world, consider copying the best celebrity travel outfits that don’t skimp on style or comfort.
Whether you’re headed on a short or long journey, there are a few key tenants to remember when assembling these looks: “Always think breathable and forgiving fabrics,” says stylist KJ Moody, the mastermind behind some of Beyonce’s most standout ensembles and has also worked with stars like Chloë Bailey and Kelly Rowland. “I recommend linen, cashmere, and cotton pieces, as they pack well and are easy and cozy to wear.”
Also, keep in mind the purpose and destination of your trip. Although appearing put-together is always key, the outfit you wear en route to a European baecation may be slightly different from the one you sport for a more casual trip on the homefront. “International travel tends to call for extra excitement and flair,” Moody notes.
As far as some styles to avoid? “Anything too tight, too loose, too long, or too revealing, which can cause problems when in close quarters on planes, trains, and automobiles,” Moody says. “Unless you’re flying first class or via private plane, you may, unfortunately, end up touching the stranger next to you because you both decided to wear short shorts.”
Without further ado, keep scrolling to shop Moody’s favorite travel outfit ideas inspired by celebrity looks. No matter where you’re headed and or what your personal style is, these are perfect for a range of occasions and aesthetics.
Bodysuit, Stretchy Skirt and Fanny Pack
For a trip from New York City to The Hamptons last summer, Moody dressed Beyoncé in an Area orange bodysuit (now sold out online) and a pink skirt. “This outfit was perfect because it provided a great fit with just enough stretch,” he says. “It was sexy-meets-comfortable.” Emulate the look and accessorize with a pair of artsy earrings (Queen Bey’s are from Schiaparelli) and a colorful fanny pack (the Renaissance artist rocks Anima Iris’ Zaza Raspberry version) to keep your passport and small essentials handy.
Velour Mini Dress and Heels
“I love a good sporty chic moment,” Moody says. To nail this vibe, try a soft velour mini dress that’s tailored yet flexible and elevate it with statement heels and shades à la Queen B. Although Beyoncé’s Adidas x Ivy Park velour number is currently sold out, you can grab a similar style online and the exact pair of Jimmy Choo pumps she wore to complete her jet-setting ensemble.
Bralette, Blazer and Cropped Pants
Headed on a long flight? Moody recommends a bralette, blazer, and pants combo that will keep you warm while allowing for just a bit of breathing room so you don’t overheat. What’s more, the look is perfectly street-ready, so you can go straight to exploring (without having to change) once you arrive at your destination.
Bright Sweatsuit and Sneakers
A cozy sweatsuit is a closet staple and translates well for all your travel needs. Instead of going neutral, follow Selena Gomez’s lead and choose a bold orange getup for a fun pop of color, then balance it out with crisp white sneakers. Moody also suggests styling a mint green jumpsuit with matching Nike dunks.
Breezy Linen Dress and Clear Sandals
“Lightweight, breathable, and chic, linen is especially ideal to wear if you’re traveling to a tropical or warm European location,” Moody says. “I love it with a clear heeled sandal or nude pump for a playful, comfortable finish.”
Sleek Jumpsuit and Sock Heels
Sometimes, you have to head straight to an event post-travel. Whether for a bachelorette party or birthday soirée, you’ll want to wear something that isn’t going to stain or wrinkle easily, like a jumpsuit, Moody says. He loves Bella +Canvas’ cozy, affordable style, as well as Marine Serre’s Moon-Print one-piece and matching sock booties to create the ultimate svelte look (Bey herself sported the latter pairing from her private jet to an NBA game). Add on a spherical, basketball-inspired bag for extra style points, Moody advises.
Classic Tee and Jeans
“You can’t go wrong with a white tee and jeans,” Moody says. “It’s functional, classic, and oh-so-comfortable for travel—plus, you may already have these pieces in your closet!” Throw on some leather flats and an oversized blazer to complete the casual-cool feel.
Hoodie, Denim Jacket and Leggings
Wearing leggings for travel is a no-brainer, but for a dressier take, Moody advises choosing a thicker trouser-like pair. (In case you need shopping inspo, Gigi Hadid and a host of other celebrities love Alo Yoga’s textured Moto leggings.) On top, a cropped hoodie and a denim jacket will provide the necessary layering potential to keep you comfy in both the chilly airplane cabin and more temperate locales.
