Steve Keene, the painter behind the album art for Pavement’s Wowee Zowee and Silver Jews’ The Arizona Record, has a new book in the works. The Steve Keene Art Book: Live from Subliminal Projects LA, CA collects paintings that appeared in a 2016 show at Shepard Fairey’s Los Angeles gallery. There’s a crowdfunding campaign to see the project through to publication, see more on that here. 

In addition to his music-heavy subject matter and involvement in the 1990s indie rock orbit, Keene is known for his distinct production style, painting several dozen works at a time on pieces of plywood. According to a press release about The Steve Keene Art Book, Keene has created more than 300,000 works this way during his lifetime, with about 800 of them appearing in the book.
