If you’re the type to follow hypebeast meme accounts, then the collaboration you’ve been waiting is here. Matthew M. Williams, who was named the creative director of Givenchy earlier this year, presented his first collection for the Parisian house in September 2020. And while spring-summer runways typically drop in stores around February, the “Teaser” capsule collection is out—and available to shop—today. Consisting of menswear, womenswear, and accessories, it gives you an early taste of what’s to come from the burgeoning partnership.

As founder of the brand 1017 ALYX 9SM, Williams is all too familiar with the world of elevated hoodies and baseball caps and has built a cult of designer streetwear enthusiasts. The appointment of Williams at Givenchy is a return to the house’s relationship with streetwear: Under Riccardo Tisci, who oversaw the LVMH label from 2005 to 2017, the brand was heavily influenced by underground culture. Clare Waight Keller succeeded Ricci and became Givenchy’s first female artistic director, exiting the house in April 2020.

Williams’ “Teaser” is an curated selection from his first runway for Givenchy, reflecting his love for streetwear fused with the Parisian house’s minimalist streak. Complete with padlocks, boxy silhouettes, and a demure palette of black and deep browns, Williams married the two worlds. Directional tailoring recuts the classic blazer with flattened lapels, while accessories saw Williams’ predilection for heavy hardware. Williams also reprised a vintage Givenchy logo, the 4G emblem, which is printed on denim and embroidered onto the lining of jackets. For the outlandish, there’s also a horn-trimmed baseball cap.

Just in time for holiday shopping, “Teaser” is exclusively sold in select Givenchy stores worldwide and givenchy.com.
