After testing positive for COVID-19, YNW Melly requested his release from Broward County Jail in Florida. A judge has now denied his request for release, TMZ reports.

Melly’s lawyers argued that he was in danger of dying due to complications from the coronavirus and cited inadequate care at the jail. Melly was seeking house arrest and permission to be treated at a hospital. The judge’s order reportedly stated that Melly can request special medical treatment from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Pitchfork has contacted YNW Melly’s lawyers and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

Melly is currently awaiting trial in a Broward County jail after being charged with two counts of first-degree murder over the deaths of YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser. On April 9, the family of Juvy filed a motion in court opposing Melly’s medical release.

Melly has pleaded not guilty. The State of Florida announced plans to seek the death penalty against Melly.

The same day that YNW Melly revealed that he’d tested positive for COVID-19, Tekashi 6ix9ine was released from prison early due to coronavirus concerns.
