Uncut Gems co-director Josh Safdie appears in the documentary with Daniel Lopatin to discuss how their shared love for ’70s prog influenced the score. In the video, Lopatin talks synths, scoring to picture, and his process of “finding the cosmic in the ordinary.”
Lopatin also discusses his favorite moment in the score, which was soundtracking Julia Fox’s character after a fight with Adam Sandler’s Howard Ratner, explaining, “Even though she is upset, and she is basically like ‘You’re an idiot, I’m gonna go do my own thing,’ you could misread it and score it in a dark way. But what we want to do is give her a triumphant soundtrack.” Lopatin also said, “There’s not gonna be a whole ton of Good Time-y music in this that has this sort of ’70s prog-pomp, but I’m thinking of taking it in that direction for her.”
