Is there anything Rob Lowe can’t do? On TV alone, he’s been a doctor, a lawyer, a city manager, a White House employee, and even a paranormal investigator. And now, he’s also a lifesaving fire captain in 9-1-1: Lone Star, the midseason spin-off of Ryan Murphy‘s popular drama 9-1-1.
In a first look at the series, which premieres Sunday, Jan. 19 following the NFC Championship game, Lowe is looking all kinds of hot in his fireman’s uniform since he’s, you know, fighting fire. As Owen Strand, Lowe is the lone survivor of his Manhattan firehouse after 9/11, and after rebuilding his station, he’s dispatched to a firehouse in Austin, Texas, along with his troubled firefighter son, T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein.)

He’ll bring his progressive philosophies on life and firefighting — as well as big-city style and swagger — to his new home, while also struggling with a secret he hides from the world. Not too much of that struggle is evident in the new trailer, although there’s plenty of boom and pyro, as well as the hint of some possible fireworks with Liv Tyler‘s character, who does some boot scootin’ and sensual toe showin’ to give the procedural some other type of heat too.
9-1-1: Lone Star premieres Sunday, Jan. 19 after the NBC Championship game on Fox.
