Riverdale Recruits a Supergirl Villain to Be Jughead’s New Teacher

Jughead (Cole Sprouse) hasn’t even gotten his scholarship notification on Riverdale and we can already tell his new school is going to be menacing.

As the cast and executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel earlier in July, Jughead will spend at least a good portion of Season 4 at a “Gossip Girl” kind of prep school. Now, TV Guide has learned that former Supergirl alum Sam Witwer will be playing Jug’s creative writing teacher at the new establishment.

“Handsome, bookish and cool, Mr. Chipping teaches creative writing at a prestigious prep school near Riverdale,” reads the official character description. “He recruits Jughead for his seminar, and while he’s eminently inspiring to his students, there’s a darkness hidden far beneath the surface.”

As we’ve learned on Riverdale so far, “darkness hidden beneath the surface” usually means murder or organ harvesting, or both. Sounds like that prep school isn’t going to be much safer for Jughead than Riverdale has been.

ComicBook.com first reported the news.

Riverdale returns Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 8/7c on The CW.

(Disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS Interactive, a division of CBS Corporation.)
