Shang-Chi Actor Simu Liu Has A Hilarious Response To Landing The Part

In just the past week, the life of actor Simu Liu has completely changed. Sure, before now he played a key role in a popular Canadian sitcom, and just recently had a supporting part in an episode of Fresh Of The Boat, but after this past Saturday he is set to become one of the biggest stars in the world. Becoming the latest hero to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe has that effect.

Many folks have discovered in recent days that Simu Liu is a “must follow” on Twitter, as his intense enthusiasm and earnestness about his new role is radiant in his posts. This includes this fantastic bit of reflection with the actor looking back on where his life was just last week.

Of course, there is a very good reason why it seems like Simu Liu is caught up in a whirlwind: he totally has been. We learned that the Kim’s Convenience star was playing Shang-Chi this past Saturday, but Liu himself only found out about it last Tuesday. Making the situation even more insane, it was only last Sunday that he screen-tested for the part. That’s a lot of life-changing stuff jammed into just a few days, so he deserves a fair amount of time to adjust.

Set to be released on February 12, 2021, Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings likely won’t be going into production until the first quarter of next year – but it’s already developing as an incredibly exciting project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It starts with the presence of director Destin Daniel Cretton, who notably helmed the acclaimed drama Short Term 12, but anticipation gets even more intense when you acknowledge who is joining Simu Liu in the cast. Tony Leung will be playing legendary crime figure The Mandarin (not to be confused with Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery from Iron Man 3), and Awkwafina has also signed on for an undisclosed part.

It will probably be a few months before we hear any more substantial news about Shang-Chi And the Legend Of The Ten Rings (barring any announcements at the D23 Expo next month), but that just means you have plenty of time to get familiar with Simu Liu’s past work. The first three seasons of Kim’s Convenience are available to stream on Netflix.
