Though not one of the high-water marks of early Disney animation, The Three Caballeros is a fascinating footnote in the company’s history. Structured around a group of shorts meant to commemorate Donald Duck’s 10th anniversary, the film includes some beautiful hand-drawn imagery, lively songs, and one of the earliest instances of animation blended with live-action footage. The Three Caballeros characters — Donald, Jose Carioca, and Panchito Pistoles —have endured for decades. They still have their own ride at Epcot and recently got their own TV series, Legend of the Three Caballeros.
