Searchlight’s Golden Globe winning A Real Pain will stream on Hulu on Jan. 16.
Last night, the pic’s co-star Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor Film at the Globes ceremony in the Jesse Eisenberg starring, written and directed feature.
The movie delves into the universal themes of cultural heritage, acceptance and family relationships while set against the scenic backdrop of two cousins’ trip to Poland.
Searchlight acquired the movie a year ago out of Sundance. The pic was nominated for 4 Golden Globe Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor Jesse Eisenberg, Best Screenplay as well as male supporting actor. Additionally, the film won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance was named one of AFI’s Top 10 Movies of 2024.
A Real Pain landed on SVOD via Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home on Dec. 31 on Dec. 31, repping a 61-day window. The Blu-Ray release is on Feb. 4. The Hulu streaming date reps a 76-day window which is slightly longer than that of Searchlight’s Kinds of Kindness (70 days), but shorter than 20th Century Studios’ Alien Romulus (97 days) among the Disney titles.
By comparison, Focus Features’ longest window was for Housekeeping for Beginners at 63 days.
To date, A Real Pain has made $9.7M worldwide, $7.8M domestic at the box office.
A Real Pain is up for three awards at this Sunday’s Critics Choice Awards including Best Comedy Movie, Supporting Actor Culkin, and Best Original Screenplay, Eisenberg. The SAG Award noms will be announced this Wednesday.
