Spirit of the Beehive have announced their first new album in three years. You’ll Have to Lose Something is out August 23 via Saddle Creek. Lead single “Let the Virgin Drive” samples Japanese City pop, and it comes with a Daniel Patrick Brennan–directed music video about trying to cure your loneliness through any means possible. The Philadelphia experimental indie rock trio experienced a major shift in the band’s dynamic in 2022; members Zack Schwartz and Rivka Ravede ended their romantic relationship of more than a decade. Instead of breaking up the band, they figured out a way to work through it, resulting in last year’s I’m So Lucky EP. You’ll Have to Lose Something continues that meditation on dissolving relationships, heartbreak, and solo journeys.
Spanning 12 songs, You’ll Have to Lose Something is Spirit of the Beehive’s fifth full-length album. It follows 2021’s Entertainment, Death and includes a collaboration with Hattiesburg synth-punk band MSPaint.
