It’s never easy to say goodbye to a character and actor after a long run on a show, and the one coming up in the Chicago Fire Season 12 finale is going to be especially emotional. We know, because it’s Eamonn Walker, who has played Wallace Boden since the beginning of the series, and the promo warns us it will be an emotional farewell.

In fact, the entire promo (which you can watch in full above) is about his goodbye, with the firefighters and paramedics gathering in Boden’s office. “You made 51 a family, Chief, and this firehouse a home,” Cruz (Joe Minoso) says. Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) adds, “You’ve inspired a group of firefighters who know the meaning of bravery.”

And based on the photos for the episode, titled “Never Say Goodbye,” he’ll be showing what it means to be brave at least one more time, since Boden looks to be getting in on the action.

In the finale, Boden makes a decision that impacts the race for Deputy Commissioner. Plus, a tense call brings up painful memories for Carver (Jake Lockett) and Damon (Michael Bradway), and Mouch (Christian Stolte) struggles to adjust to the new Truck. (Remember: They needed a new one after the vehicle was stolen in the 250th episode, with Taylor Kinney‘s Severide on board.)

It was just under two weeks ahead of the finale date that it was announced Walker is leaving the show at the end of the season. The good news is that it has also been said he could return in a recurring capacity next season, which means we at least don’t have to worry about Boden being killed off in his last episode.

Check out the finale photos below, then head to the comments to let us know how you think Fire will write out Boden.
