Pitchfork is proud to announce that we have been nominated for the General Excellence, Special Interest, award by the American Society of Magazine Editors as part of the 2023 National Magazine Awards. The winners will be announced during a ceremony on March 28.
The organization’s description of the award is as follows: “This award honors print, digital and multiplatform publications for editorial excellence and audience engagement. The award also recognizes the importance of editorially driven brand extensions, including conferences and events. Judges will evaluate entries based on the achievement of editorial and visual superiority in print, online and in person; the cross-platform integration of print, digital and experiential content; and the editors’ success in serving the interests of their readers. Digital-only and cross-platform entries will also be evaluated based on the outstanding use of digital technologies and the overall quality of the mobile experience.”
The National Magazine Awards were established in 1966 to honor print (and now, digital) publications that “consistently demonstrate superior execution of editorial objectives, innovative techniques, noteworthy journalistic enterprise and imaginative art direction.” The awards are sponsored by ASME in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and are administered by ASME.
Pitchfork previously received National Magazine Award nominations in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. In 2013, Pitchfork won the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in Digital Media. Pitchfork Associate Editor Cat Zhang was chosen as a 2022 ASME Next Award honoree.
