Nipsey Hussle’s Killer, Eric R. Holder Jr., Sentenced to 60 Years in Prison

Holder was found guilty of first-degree murder in July

Nipsey Hussle’s killer, Eric R. Holder Jr., has been sentenced to 60 years to life in prison, the Los Angeles Times reports. At least 25 years of the sentence are for the first-degree murder of Hussle; another 25 years are an enhancement for using a gun to kill Hussle; and 10 years are for assault convictions for shooting two other men during the incident, according to the report.

Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed in March 2019. Court documents and testimony indicated that Holder shot Nipsey Hussle at least 10 times in front of the rapper’s Marathon Clothing store, resulting in a severed spinal cord, and kicked him more than once on the ground. He was arrested on April 2, 2019—two days after the shooting.

Holder had been scheduled for sentencing in September, but it was pushed back to allow Holder’s defense attorneys to prepare for the court appearance. His trial began in mid-June of 2022 after multiple delays related to the pandemic and other administrative changes.

Both Nipsey Hussle’s home city of Los Angeles and the wider hip-hop community were rocked by the rapper’s unexpected death at age 33. He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this past summer, with Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson declaring the rapper’s August 15 birthday as Nipsey Hussle Day.
