Britney Spears’ longtime and court-appointed lawyer Samuel D. Ingham III is resigning, as TMZ and Deadline report. Ingham was appointed to his role in 2008 by Reva G. Goetz, the former judge in the conservatorship case. His decision to resign was made public on the same day it was reported that Spears’ longtime manager Larry Rudolph also resigned. According to Deadline, Ingham filed paperwork to officially resign today (July 6) in Los Angeles Superior Court.

According to the court documents, viewed and shared by Deadline, the filing states that Ingham “hereby resigns as court-appointed counsel for BRITNEY JEAN SPEARS, conservatee, effective upon the appointment of new court-appointed counsel.” Ingham’s resignation from the conservatorship is accompanied by the departure of the law firm Loeb & Loeb.

More details surrounding the controversial conservatorship of Britney Spears, which has long been overseen by the musician’s father Jamie Spears, were revealed in a New Yorker article published on July 3. Late last month, Britney Spears appeared at a court hearing to state that she wanted the court-ordered conservatorship to come to an end. She also said that she never knew she had the ability to request the end of the conservatorship. Sam Ingham claimed he had no involvement in Spears’ June courtroom remarks. “These are entirely her words,” he said, according to The New York Times.
