Launching exclusively with Selfridges, the Hyundai Re:Style 2020 capsule collection was created in partnership with six leading global designers: Alighieri, E.L.V. DENIM, Public School, pushBUTTON, Richard Quinn, and Rosie Assoulin—who have created items including jewelry, jumpsuits, shirts, vests, and bags from the discarded raw materials of car production and scrapping processes. The forward-thinking designers were selected because they shared Hyundai’s vision of finding more sustainable ways to create products.
The collection is available on Selfridges’ website and in a pop-up store in the London brick-and-mortar location as of October 13. Sales from the items will raise money for the British Fashion Council’s Institute of Positive Fashion (IPF), which aims to create a blueprint industry by bringing together expertise from different areas in order to help brands in the field.
This year, due to the current global climate, Hyundai will unveil the collection digitally. The pieces will be launched through Hyundai’s own platforms, on Selfridges’ channels, and by the designers themselves via social media from through October 19th.
The concept for Re:Style 2020 stems from the recognition that although almost all materials from the vehicle manufacturing and scrapping processes are currently recycled, there are still some materials such as leather, glass, and airbags that end up in landfills. For Re:Style 2020, as with previous years, Hyundai gathered various discarded materials to use in the collection with the help of various supporting partners.
The collection aims to encourage cross-industry collaborations to champion new thinking and innovation in design and manufacturing—helping to reimagine the possibilities of waste.

Hyundai Re:Style collection: designers and inspirations
Rosie Assoulin is a luxury womenswear designer based in New York whose design aesthetic toes the line between romantically fantastical and reliably practical. Ninety percent of her collection, created in NYC, shows a commitment to sustaining local employment and income, as well as reducing waste and environmental impact. For Hyundai, she creatively reimagined a beautiful tote bag made from seatbelt webbing, carpet fabric, and foam repurposed from discarded automotive materials. Price: $485
Alighieri Jewellery, led by designer Rosh Mahtani, is handmade and cast in the historic Hatton Garden. The brand is focused on creating timeless talismans, each with their own story. For the Re:Style 2020 project, Alighieri Jewellery created a stunning collection including necklaces, chokers and bracelets made from repurposed seatbelts, car glass and foam materials—as well as gold, silver, bronze and freshwater pearls. E.L.V. DENIM takes unwanted jeans destined for landfills and turns them into sophisticated, modern pieces. Adhering to an ethos of zero waste, the material used has zero impact on the environment. Working with local ateliers in East London, the owner Anna Foster supports local businesses and communities. The brand mixed Hyundai leather scraps with upcycled denim to create a unique jumpsuit. Founded in 2008 in NYC, Public School continues to evolve the landscape for men’s and womenswear. Designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow blend references from their pasts—including music, art, and culture—to create a platform that promotes the ideas of social consciousness and justice. For its ReStyle 2020 collection piece, Public School cleverly mixed discarded seatbelt webbing and airbag materials to create a Fuji Technical Vest. Price: $1,009
pushBUTTON is an exciting high-end mixed street label out of Seoul that offers an array of garments in playful designs and silhouettes. The pushBUTTON Re:Style 2020 piece was created using waste airbag materials with the original details intact, but transformed with pockets to accentuate its feel. Price: $698
London-born designer, Richard Quinn established his namesake label in 2016, specializing in bold womenswear and textiles that convey a forward-thinking, unafraid vision. For Hyundai, he created a blue and white floral pattern reflective of his signature style to be printed directly onto recycled airbag fabric crafted into a fitted corset. Price: $1,448
