“Einstein, Michael Jackson & Me: A Search For Soul in the Power Pits of Rock And Roll” is a powerful and brilliant ode to a behind the scenes look at the music industry and what goes into the making of a superstar, an idol, a legend. Author Howard Bloom having been one of the greatest publicists of all times representing artists including: Joan Jett, Billy Idol, Alice Cooper, Billy Joel, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Queen, Bette Midler, Cyndi Lauper, Prince, Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Styx, Run DMC, Bob Marley and over 100 more including Michael Jackson, penned his intimate experiences with 27 of the all-time greatest stars of rock n’ roll.
Bloom insists on the ability to “find the gods inside of you” which apparently worked for his clients and himself as well. The book is combined with fascinating stories, humorous scenarios, flavored by some aspects of self help. A compelling writer, Bloom captures his audience throughout the body of the book which begins with the surreal news of Michael Jackson’s death.
With chapters titled: “Bette Midler and the Talking Dog”, “Rap-Shit All Over Your Face”, “Billy Idol-The Client Who Almost Died”, “Bob Marley-Turning Dying Into Living”, “The Man Who Bit the Head Off a Bat-Ozzy Osbourne”, “Michael Jackson’s Sexual Crucifixion” and 46 more of that nature, you know it’s got to be intriguing.
Bloom devoted a good part of the book to the true story of Michael Jackson who was forced to live with the darkest press ever written. Sensitively he clarified the plight of Jackson in a very emotional fashion. He also told the story of what kept Bob Marley alive while he was dying. The book contains stories of the super groups, Supertramp, ZZ Top, Genesis, Queen and others. Prince and Billy Joel were also included and so much more. Bloom didn’t only represent his clients but he knew his clients. I would love to see even a single chapter in this book become a full length feature film.
Other books by Howard Bloom include: “The Lucifer Principle”, “The God Problem”, “The Genius of the Beast”, “How I Accidentally Started the Sixties”, “The Muhammad Code” and others. Bloom has been called “next in a lineage of seminal think is that includes Newton, Darwin, Einstein, and Freud.”
This book is an essential read even if you don’t particularly love rock and roll. For me it was a learning experience and difficult to put down…..
