The 2020 Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals have been canceled due to Rhode Island’s COVID-19 guidelines. “As devastating as it is to write those words, it’s balanced with a renewed sense of, well, HOPE,” executive producer Jay Sweet wrote in a statement. “It’s Rhode Island’s motto for good reason and it’s also the feeling you, our festival family, constantly exudes when we come together in good times and perhaps more importantly, in difficult times as well. This community is truly unlike any other in music, and I believe we can emerge from this hardship stronger and more connected than ever before.” Find Jay Sweet’s full statement below.

Full refunds are available to ticketholders. Organizers are also encouraging folks to donate to the Newport Festivals Foundation to ensure that the fests can return in 2021.

Last month, the Newport Festivals Foundation launched the Newport Festivals Musician Relief Fund.

Newport Folk 2020 was set to take place between July 31 and August 2. The lineup included Big Thief, Sharon Van Etten, Andrew Bird, and more. The dates for Newport Jazz 2020 were August 7–9. On the bill were Makaya McCraven, Khruangbin, the Comet Is Coming, Wynton Marsalis, Norah Jones, and others.
