Would Dakota Johnson Do Another ‘Big Naked Franchise’ Like Fifty Shades Of Grey?

Dakota Johnson has tried a lot of different types of roles ever since her gig with the Fifty Shades franchise ended after Fifty Shades Freed. The actress says a lot of “big naked franchises” haven’t come her way since she stopped playing Anastasia Steele on the big screen; however, would she take another role of that ilk if it came her way?

The actress recently spoke out about her experiences on Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, noting that she’s happy about any roles that come her way and would not want to shut the door on any possibilities. According to Dakota Johnson,

Since Fifty Shades Freed, Dakota Johnson really has seemed open to all kinds of acting possibilities. Her resume has been very eclectic, ranging from the horror film Suspiria (which ended with her attending therapy) to this summer’s feel good journeying flick The Peanut Butter Falcon, opposite Shia LaBeouf.

The idea that she’d be open to a role similar to the one originally crafted by E.L. James is interesting, and is very dissimilar to her co-star Jamie Dornan, who has been open that he will not take a role like Fifty Shades of Grey’s Christian Grey ever again. (Although it should be noted he was simply saying he wouldn’t take a role quite so notorious ever again.)

Sometimes, when major actors appear in a notable franchise, they are at the risk of being typecast, but as Dakota Johnson’s recent roles reveal, there doesn’t seem to be a ton of danger of that for the actress. In fact, the actress also mentioned in her interview with The Wrap that “big naked franchises” aren’t actually a dime a dozen and haven’t been coming her way in the time since.

For now, though, you can catch her in The Peanut Butter Falcon, in theaters now, or wait until 2020, when her next romantic drama Covers hits theaters. That romance will place Dakota Johnson’s character in the music industry.
