Taron Egerton Is Down To Join The MCU, But Maybe Not As Wolverine

Following the success of Kingsman: The Secret Service, Welsh actor Taron Egerton quickly became one of Hollywood’s most sought-after young talents. He subsequently starred in Eddie the Eagle opposite Hugh Jackman, a Kingsman sequel titled Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and the recently-released Elton John biopic Rocketman, proving that he was far more than just a pretty action hero. Not that he’s opposed to returning to a life of saving the world. In fact, Taron Egerton is more than ready to join the ever-growing MCU, which is pretty much just a huge collection of outrageously attractive action heroes fighting cosmic threats and looking great doing it.

Taron Egerton recently commented briefly on whether or not he would join the MCU. He’d been rumored to play the Disney/Marvel Studios version of Wolverine, but he said those rumors weren’t founded.

Here’s what he said during a red carpet interview with Variety:

Now, it’s worth noting that while Taron Egerton has pretty much shot down the possibility of being the next Wolverine, it also seems like he hasn’t even been approached by Marvel. So it’s really anyone’s guess at this point. It sounds like he doesn’t even know and he’s just saying “I’m not Wolverine” to help fans curb their expectations. Still, I’m gonna choose to lean harder into my own wishful thinking and maintain that until he says the words, “Marvel turned me down,” or “It’s 100% not happening, shut up,” he’s not not our new Wolverine.

But even with his immense reserves of talent, can Taron Egerton ever top Hugh Jackman’s incredible performance as the grizzly X-Man? He may be able to take on his performances in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, and mayyyyybe the first X-Men, but there’s no replicating or emulating what Jackman did so beautifully and so effortlessly in Logan. I’m not saying it’s impossible and I’m not saying he should strive to be another Hugh Jackman, but his performances won’t hit us quite the same way. That being said, he absolutely deserves a shot at a Marvel hero, and we’re betting he’ll get one sooner rather than later.

You can catch Taron Egerton in all of his aforementioned roles as well as his upcoming ones, which include Sing 2 and the upcoming The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance television series. Also, if you’re itching to find out what’s hitting theaters this year, we’ve got you covered.
