Spinoff From: The Fugitive (1993)

The Fugitive is one of the more successful movie reboots of a classic TV series, beloved by dads and Harrison Ford fans everywhere. But you’d be forgiven if you completely forgot about the attempted spinoff U.S. Marshals. The spinoff-sequel brings back Tommy Lee Jones’ Marshal Sam Gerard and pits him against yet another fugitive from justice, played by Wesley Snipes, and also stars Robert Downey Jr. and Joe Pantoliano as fellow federal agents.

U.S. Marshals wasn’t completely awful, but it was such a bald-faced attempt to “franchise-ify” a successful one-off movie that audiences just didn’t respond to it. “You loved watching that guy escape the feds, but wouldn’t you also love to know what else those feds get up to?” better suits something like a mid-aughts Fox primetime drama than a summer blockbuster.
