HAIM have shared another new song. This one’s titled “Hallelujah” and it arrives with a music video directed by frequent collaborator and family friend Paul Thomas Anderson. The band co-wrote the song with Tobias Jesso Jr. It’s produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, Rostam Batmanglij, and Danielle Haim. Watch the “Hallelujah” visual below.
Prior to the release of “Hallelujah,” Alana Haim shared a lengthy statement about her verse on the single, which she said is a tribute to her friend Sammi Kane who died at age 20. “It was a loss that changed my life forever. Sammi was my everything, and coming to terms with the fact that she wasn’t here, that I couldn’t call her, I couldn’t hug her, I would never see her bright smile and sparkling eyes ever again broke me,” Alana wrote.
Este Haim also shared a statement about “Hallelujah,” writing, “to me it’s a song about relying on the people around you and reflecting on how different life could be if those people weren’t around.” She continued, “I wrote my verse a few days after I’d gotten some pretty terrible news from my endocrinologist…. This song is for anyone struggling with chronic illness and the people around us who we truly rely on for help and guidance.”
“Hallelujah” is the latest single from the sister trio, who released the songs “Now I’m in It” and “Summer Girls” earlier this year. The band released its second album Something to Tell You, in 2017.
